TORINO, ITALIA - GENTE, ARTE E COTIDIANO
Rio de Janeiro, RJ BRASIL - August 1993
Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Rio de Janeiro - Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim
An exhibit in tribute to the town of Torino, in
the northern part of Italy where I lived 30 years.
Torino's been for centuries a noble and rich town, unification of Italy and the first
Parliament are there, arts, fashion, cinema, technology started in Torino. Now only technology and a wild uncontrolled immigration are left, relegating Torino to a secondary role
in the Italian scenario. Jazz and other artistic initiatives are growing in this third Millennium,
if the typical "bugianen" mentality of the Turinese people will change a bit, things should get better.
Thanks to the contribution of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Rio de Janeiro, I could put up a 360o cultural view of this noble town, its baroque, and its people, now facing a process of globalization. On exhibit are 43 B/W panoramic pictures, from Baroque to suburban, from art to tradition and folklore..
Palazzo Carignano, a gorgeous building in
downtown Torino, dating a couple hundred years at the very least. The Parliament was located here, a beautiful example of Baroque architecture, now a Museum.
A hot summer day in one of the more traditional and popular areas of Turin, "Barriera di Milano". The barber, an ancient Italian tradition. A meeting point,
where things happen. Soccer chatting, politics, male gossips, soft-porn magazines. Guy stuff.
